Vivian Vivi Savitri (Weisser) was born in 1951 in Haifa, Israel, to immigrant parents from Romania who survived the war. Since her early youth she has painted, sculpted, danced, photographed and written.
With excellent critical acclaim, she first exhibited her artwork at 19, while still in duty of her compulsory military service.
She studied fine arts at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design (Jerusalem) and world literature and fine arts at the University of Haifa. However, she left the academy, realizing the serious limitations to her full spiritual and artistic development, which the academic system imposed. She then started teaching painting to children, youth, adults and the elderly, whilst still being engaged intensively in her own creative work.
The subjects that interested her most have been the characteristics of human beings - faces and expressions, which led her to many paintings based on subconscious levels and abstraction. Throughout this process, she developed a unique painting technique using predominantly soft pastels and occasionally aquarelles, which replaced the heavier oil and acrylic paints. For over 30 years this technique has been perfected and reached a level of rarely-seen detail with such paints.
At 28, she began studying Judaism intensively for 6 years, focusing on the kabbalah and Hasidut (Hasidism). Despite her strong connection to the wisdom of the spiritual source of Jewish teachings, she was attracted to explore other religions as well, recognizing a universal aspect in them all.
Mystic and esoteric interests led her to a semi-abstract avenue, with creatures such as half-man half-bird and cosmic roosters, crying inaudible messages into the vast reaches of starry space. Later came the birds (e.g. [1], [2]) , as a metaphor for balance between heaven and earth. The birds, the sky, the earth, flight, streams, movement through clouds; all that which is in a permanent state of re-creation came to be of high prominence in her paintings.
A major phase of her work began in the First Gulf War in 1991. At this time she was absorbed into the book of Psalms. Thus were born the paintings of cosmic energy, which is still in effect today.
Since 1998 she has been traveling yearly to India, where she was guided and inspired by a few spiritual masters and sages. Notably, she was exposed to the teachings of Yogananda, Sri Aurobindo and The Mother, who greatly affected her life and growth, along with a series of other great spiritual masters. Those included a transformative encounter with Ramesh Balsekar. All of them walked her to expand her consciousness.
However, the one that most enlightened her spiritual path and transformation was the Avatar Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
Vivian has worked intensively with people from different religions, cultures and professions. She was a pioneer in finding ways to combine the work of spirit and art together and touching the wellspring of creativity and has thus been a mentor to many.
She has continuously explored work methods based on intuitive reception, expression, and flow, from which it is possible to experience additional levels of personality and creative potential.
Vivian's spiritual development and universal approach provided the basis for generating a message of peace to the world in her work.
These days she is busy painting, writing and photographing, while still constantly exploring and studying the worlds within.
In parallel, she holds individual exhibitions that express her embracing message and her most recent works of art.
